Ecstatic Beauty by The Dysania Concept (2023)

From an egg to a larva, an insect is born. As time passes, it eats and sleeps until it grows and prepares for its next chapter. When ready to grow, away it goes, and from the solitude, a cocoon it becomes. After a time, from the cocoon, a butterfly is born and, when it learns to fly, explores the world until it abides by its time. Butterflies have breathtaking life cycles, where their ability to evolve into something beautiful is the end product of a lifetime of growth. So, in this edition of The Mindsets, we’ll explore the qualities, virtues and skills Butterflies have that enable us to understand the beauty of the journey. Dodonsky wrote, “The Butterfly said to the Sun, ‘They can’t stop talking about my transformation. I can only do it once in my lifetime. If only they know they can do it countless times and in many ways…’”

1. Self-Growth

Butterflies teach us the effects of self-growth. Despite being renowned for their colourful beauty, Butterflies do not have that appearance throughout their life. Their beauty arrives in their last stage after they’ve journeyed through life and growth. As mentioned in the introduction, Butterflies know they have a journey ahead of themselves and work through it to reach their ecstatic beauty. Butterflies choose to embark on a path of self-growth. So, whenever you feel like you’re not in the place you would like to be, whether because you think you lack a skill or quality, acknowledge you are on a journey. Only you can choose this path, so once you do, remember every step will take you in that direction, so slowly and carefully, start taking them.

2. Solitude

Butterflies teach us the importance of solitude when having to grow. During the most critical part of their self-growth journey, Butterflies cherish the beauty of solitude. When comprehending it is time to step into their cocoon, they do it independently, away from the world they know. Butterflies know solitude is vital to completing this part of the journey, and they embrace it rather than run from it despite maybe fearing being alone. Similarly, there are times in our journey when we must step away from the world we know and take action. Solitude is the first step towards comprehending your mind as it lets you face your thoughts and feelings by yourself and fight through to reach an understanding.

3. Healthy Dissatisfaction

Butterflies teach us the power of healthy dissatisfaction when dealing with our journey’s chapters. Butterflies go through each step of self-growth because nature commands it’s time to evolve. The Butterfly’s nature begins to show them the boundaries and limits regarding their current stage. Hence, they develop towards a new one that will enable them to reach their most beautiful phase. Thus, the dissatisfaction that leads them to the next step stems from a need to grow, not a hate of who they are. Therefore, when we decide to grow, this must come from a healthy dissatisfaction, meaning a need to grow because we want to be more, not because we need to be more or stop being who we are.

Butterflies are a shining metaphor for the journey we all adventure. We all go through stages, growing from the ones we were before, and we need cocoons to rest between them to ensure we take the best teachings and prepare for what’s to come. Luckily, unlike Butterflies, we go through this process several times. We experience several cacoons and reach new beauty and wholeness plenty of times. Therefore, remember the value of adventuring through self-growth. It is a journey one must decide to embark on where who we want to become lies at the end. Also, let’s value solitude. Being alone with your mind can be one of the best situations you find yourself in. Loneliness is a time to observe, reflect and learn, leading to insightful teachings and knowledge. Finally, let this journey of self-growth come from the healthy dissatisfaction you feel. Allow your decision to become better to be inspired not from a need to stop being who you are but from wanting to be more. In the end, if we could erase all our mistakes, a different person would stand where we do. Now, we invite you to adopt The Butterfly’s Mindset as we adventure through life, growing and working towards the most beautiful versions of ourselves.
